Australia day.. What's the point?

What's the point? well don't get me wrong we had a good night, but it is hard for me to grasp what the ozzies are doing really on that day...it seems that it consists on transporting an Ice box loaded with beers, food, and more beers as far as you can, and seat there for 6 hours for the fireworks to start (at 20h00!!!) and go home straight after (yeah that's 20h30 !!!)
